Abstract
A method of estimating the parameters of a model of the systemic arterial bed for control of an electrically actuated pusher-plate-type total artificial heart was developed and tested. The parameters, which have a physical interpretation, are estimated on the basis of noninvasive measurement of exclusively aortic flow and pressure during systole. Performance of the estimation algorithm was tested by model-to-model experiments. Results demonstrate the ability of the estimator to converge quickly and track time-varying parameters
