Abstract
Propagation properties of transient electromagnetic pulses, or ultra-wideband (UWB) pulses, are very important for UWB radio communication technology. General characteristics of UWB pulses are studied. The phase properties and the issues of waveform distortion are discussed further. Because of the complexity of phase properties of UWB signals, the analytic methods in time domain are preferred. The waveform distortion of UWB signals is caused by the frequency-selective fading when the antenna is included in the generalized channel. The transmitted waveform may be reconstructed through deconvolution method from the distorted waveform
