Abstract
Summary form only given. The smart grid continues to evolve and one area with ongoing development of applications is medium and low voltage DC power distribution. DC power distribution offers efficiency savings based on var management and ability to control power flows. The panelist will discuss potential DC applications such as DC power systems on board ships, DC power distribution for data centers, DC collector systems for off-shore wind generation, and DC applications for integrating PV solar and energy storage into microgrids. Also discussed will be DC systems to support fast 480-volt DC electric vehicle service equipment.
