  • Abstract
In this paper we present a concept involving utilizing both conductive and nonconductive elements in an anisotropic plain weave to form a microstrip antenna (MSA). This configuration results in a novel antenna structure with unique radiation modes. A reference MSA, a grating MSA, and an anisotropic plain weave antenna (APWA) were fabricated and tested. A Full wave finite element method (FEM) simulation of the antenna´s performance was performed and compared with experimental results. The results show that the anisotropic plain weave configuration eliminated the TM010 mode, while enabling higher order modes.
