Abstract
The EMC directive (89/336/EEC) and its subsequent amendment (92/31/EEC) require that virtually all electrical and electronic devices, and equipment, achieve a minimum standard for electromagnetic compatibility. From 1st January 1996, it will be illegal to place a product on the market, or to take a product into service, that does not comply with this requirement. Measurements made using a ground plane bench are useful aids to demonstrating compliance with the emissions requirements of the EMC directive. These measurements may be used either to get confidence of a pass first time at an open field test site, or to support the rationale of the technical construction file. The ground plane bench allows repeatable measurements to be made at minimal cost
