Abstract
Time of arrival estimation in impulse radio ultrawideband (IR-UWB) can be achieved using non-coherent processing of the received signal, and searching back the samples prior to the peak sample value in order to identify the leading edge sample. In the literature, two kinds of searchback schemes are discussed for identifying the leading edge. In this paper, we analyze both theoretically and via simulations the trade-offs between these two kinds of searchback schemes based on the statistics of realistic channel models.
