Abstract
In the existing methods of binarization, most edge information is lost and the resulted binary image gets blurred. Edges carry most of the information in an image. Here, some techniques for the preservation of edge information in images are proposed and studied. Techniques are based on the filtering operation by some newly developed edge preserving filters followed by thresholding operation. The resulted image is a binary image having most of the edges making the binary image more meaningful. The proposed method gives better binary image compared to popular method of Otsupsilas binarization in most of the images.
