Abstract
The circular polarization (CP) operation of double-slot-fed microstrip antennas is studied theoretically and tested experimentally. Typical results for CP square and rectangular microstrip antennas on 1/8-in-thick substrates (Rexolite 2200 with a relative permittivity of 2.62) are shown. The rectangular patch is designed by the use of a feed loci plot in which the effective dimensions of the patch are used to take the fringing field effects into account. The axial ratios in both cases are much lower than 3 dB over a wide range of observation angles, even though the theory only guarantees CP at the broad side.<>
