Abstract
This paper addresses the position estimation of surface mounted permanent magnetic machine drives over a wide speed range including zero frequency. The proposed tracking method integrates the transient excitation of the main flux saturation with standard space vector PWM (SVPWM) sequence. No additional signal injection or separate test vector is required although a small degree of modification is needed when short voltage vectors occur. This method is applicable over a wide speed range. Experimental results for rotor flux position estimation and sensorless control on a 4 kW SMPM machine under no load and full load verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
