Abstract
Based on the ITU standards and other published documents analysis this paper reports in a systematic form the main directions of development of mobile telephone handset systems from first generation analog to global information infrastructure systems. The proposed systematic table presents the correlation between current and elaborating systems and highlights new goals and opportunities during each stage of development. The discussed points are also multimode operation of the multistandard and the terrestrial/satellite systems
