  • Abstract
    A number of core loss models, requiring different amounts of measured data have been investigated for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) design for traction applications. This paper presents the effects of two of these core loss models in core loss calculations. A new core loss model with a physical basis for the variation of loss coefficients with frequency and flux density is presented and used to predict core loss in the design. A core loss visualization method using image processing, which is helpful for motor optimization, is also presented.
