  • Abstract
A new apparatus, different from current microwave thermotherapy ones for curing BPH, has been preliminarily devised and as well thoroughly estimated by analyzing it using heat transfer model. In this model, the Pennes bio-heat transfer equation is solved in a spherical coordinate through numerical methods, in consideration of the thermal coupling problems between the local blood perfusion rate, the values of which chosen are the results experimentally measured before, and the temperature field inside the prostate tissues. The numerical results show the similar effect with the current radio-frequency (RF) thermal therapy. In other words, the extension with significant temperature increase is nearly the one of RF therapy. However, this new apparatus possesses many advantages, simpler structure, easier operation and lower prices for example.
