  • Abstract
A class D power amplifier by sigma-delta modulation (SDM) is proposed. Cycle-by-cycle control technique is adopted in converting an analog signal into a digital form. The pulse period generated from SDM is achieved by a discharging/charging process. The SDM pulse length is subject to the detected input level and is composed of a multiple of constant sampling period. Signal process and system model for processing conversion through the SDM modulator is clearly explored. A prototype of 100W class D power amplifier is examined for assessing the theoretical investigation and practicality. The total harmonic distortion (THD) measured without EMI filter is less than 2%.
