Abstract
The authors evaluate the error sensitivity of the modified Huffman code by computer simulation. The quantitative analysis uses the error sensitivity factor and the incorrect image ratio as a function of the image resolution, minimum scan line time, and bit error rate for two error distributions, uniform and burst. The qualitative analysis is based on a comparison between the original CCIT test images and the same images after contamination by errors. The integration of the facsimile devices in asynchronous transfer mode networks, which has become of general interest for the implementation of future broadband networks, is briefly discussed
