Abstract
It is pointed out that MOSAIC achieves a routing technique based on bus patterns preplaced all over the leaf cell and joins these segments based on module schematic information. With this routing technique, a high layout density can be achieved. The layout density of the 120-MHz micro-processor datapath module was 10000-20000 transistors/mm/sup 2/ in 0.5- mu m three-metal BiCMOS technology. Leaf cells are not used only in one module design, but are reusable across multiple module designs. Only 100 kinds of leaf cells were needed for 300 module designs.<>
