Abstract
Since the use of diversity antennas has been proven to be an effective way to combat multipath fading without increasing the link budget, having such a system at the handsets seems to be a logical step. This paper presents computational and experimental studies of the performance of dual-antenna handsets using a nonlinear adaptive algorithm. The dual-antenna operates in the 1.9 GHz PCS band, and the antennas used are miniaturized shorting post microstrip antennas. The proposed algorithm achieved an experimental gain of about 6.6 dB.
