Abstract
Modern synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems giving very high resolution have to be light and small in size to fit in small aircrafts. In this paper we show a newly designed SAR system operating at 94 GHz using a high flexible frequency generation module. This very new concept ensures a very linear signal generation which was formerly known from arbitrary waveform generators. The bandwidth of the system allows measurements up to 3.8 GHz bandwidth. We have flown this SAR-system using a model aircraft as well as a microlight and show real-time processed SAR-images. In addition we tested different kinds of inertial measurement units (IMU) to determine the minimum requirements for optimal SAR measurements.
