Abstract
The US aged T&D infrastructure is deteriorating. Present inspection techniques are unable to provide below ground diagnostics without going through a costly excavation. ITF has developed a reliable NDE technology for below grade corrosion detection. Through a joint effort of NYPA, ITF, and Osmose, this NDE technology was applied to NYPA transmission towers for below grade inspection, and through actual excavation of these legs, this NDE technique was verified. This paper presents details of this collaborative project and its results.
