Abstract
A novel microfabricated iridium oxide(IrO/sub x/) reference electrode is introduced which can be used in any buffer solutions. It is formed on Pt electrode by electrodeposition of IrO/sub x/ easily and uniformly. Its potential is stable in a phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution and in serum after initial stabilization, and its potential performance is very reproducible. The behavior of a microfabricated glucose sensor employing an IrO/sub x/ reference electrode is similar to that employing a commercial Ag/AgCl reference electrode. All results shows that IrO/sub x/ could be used in continuous glucose monitoring sensors as a reference electrode.
