Abstract
Standardization of operating system (OS) and the requirement that the full performance of the hardware should be obtained usually contradict. Loose standardization is the main approach to relieve this problem taken in the TRON project. The advantages and the problems of the approach were discussed aiming to make the way clear to relieve this problem in further improvements of the ITRON specifications
