Abstract
Coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) has been proposed for a number of digital broadcasting applications. In particular COFDM is employed in the proposed standard for the INMARSAT data distribution system. The approach described was developed for use with that system. An approach to OFDM transmission for a small number of subcarriers is presented. The approach achieves improved spectral efficiency by using separate specially optimized filters for the edge subcarriers and for the central subcarriers
