Abstract
Low frequency common mode current pulsations were found on the ac link of a space vector modulated drive. The pulsations enhance emissions at the switching frequency and generates low frequency emissions. These common mode pulsations could be injected into electric machines through the distributed capacitances; potentially triggering high frequency motor bearing currents and bearing ware, as well as heating issues. This paper presents measurements showing the low frequency common mode pulsations, and a theoretical characterization of the source. Finite element computation of the distributed stray capacitances of a given PM motor is presented.
