Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) pollution has become a global concern as Cd has some adverse effects on plants or other life forms. Lonicera japonica Thunb. is a typical ornamental plant of vertical gardening and has been showed as a potential Cd-hyperaccumulator. In this study, effects of Cd on growth and accumulation characteristics in leaf bud of Lonicera Japonica Thunb. were detected. After 21 days exposure to 5 and 10 mg L-1 Cd, there were no significant differences in leaf bud fresh biomass and dry biomass of L. japonica. Exposed to 25 mg L-1 Cd, the leaf bud of L. japonica did not induce significant damage. The good response of leaf bud biomass and water content could be related with the high tolerance of the plant to Cd. Furthermore, a positive linear correlation between Cd accumulation in leaf bud and Cd concentration in the medium was shown, indicating L. japonica may have a good accumulation ability exposed to higher Cd concentration in the medium.
