Abstract
Microwave energy for machining is being explored in the recent time. A customized applicator was used with magnetron for drilling perspex material. Microwave energy was applied at 2.45 GHz, 700 W for 60 s on a nickel coated steel wire drilling tool of Φ 0.45 mm. Tool and work material behavior in the entry and exit of the drilled holes have been studied. Thermal damage of the tool affects the accuracy of the drilled holes and help to form a process framework with minimum resources.
