Abstract
Recently we developed several domestic software packages to simulate photonic band structures [1]. In the following we will discuss some of the key numerical features of a typical photonic band structure code, and we point out some of the major advantages and disadvantages of the underlying algorithms. We also suggest an interesting feature that requires little modification of existing codes, which are antiperiodic boundary conditions to study optical localization.
