Abstract
Installing access points at bridges to supply fast moving vehicles on highways with high data rates has attracted a lot attention. This paper presents the MIMO capacities of an access point, that is Installed at a highway bridge, based on simulated and measured data at a frequency of 5.2 GHz. With the assumption that the same plane waves exist at all antennas of the receiver and the transmitter a simple extrapolation allows one to determine the capacity of a virtual MIMO system with an arbitrary antenna topology, based on SISO channel impulse responses. The validity of this assumption is discussed. It is shown that the MIMO capacities calculated by ray-tracing agree very well with the capacities taken from measured data.
