  • Abstract
In his book “Time-Harmonic Electromagnetic Fields” Harrington (1991) presented a formula which allows the computation of the electric field strength E&oarr; in the source-free upper half-space z>0 when only the tangential component E&oarr; t on the plane z=0 is given. Different from other authors, we derive this formula from Green´s second identity using the technique of scalar Green´s function. As an extension also preset sources located at z>0 are considered. Furthermore, with the help of Fourier integrals, we apply Harrington´s formula to a domain bounded by two infinite parallel planes. This leads to an infinite system of images and shows the correctness of the formula
