Abstract
Mobile services--land, sea, and air--cannot operate effectively or efficiently without radio communication. Additionally, the need to alert authorities in distress and emergency situations demands an immediate rapid communication capability which, in many cases, is mandated by the Federal Government. This paper reviews the present status, the results of the 1979 World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC-79) relative to the revised and new radio frequency allocations above 1 GHz for mobile services and a glimpse into the future. The future includes possible actions by the proposed ITU Mobile Conference of 1982 and a summary of potential and possible communications systems and offerings for the coming decade.
