Abstract
Summary form only given. The paper describes the progress made on the recently completed Phase II of the ARPA/NRL Vacuum Microelectronics Initiative. This program was a team effort between several manufacturers and laboratories, and represents the first major effort to incorporate field emitting cathode arrays into a specifically-designed microwave tube by a manufacturer. After a brief review of the tube design to meet the performance goals of this program, this paper describes the results of the DC testing of the emitter arrays by the manufacturer, the problems of interfacing the arrays into the tube structure and, finally, the RF performance of the arrays in the Klystrode tube vehicle.
