Abstract
The Space Frequency Coordination Group (SFCG) has recently recommended a set of restrictions on the power spectral densities of space-to-earth telemetry signals. These restrictions take the form of spectral mask. We review PAM signal in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise, as well as the Nyquist criterion for avoiding intersymbol interference. The impact such masks having on the issue of intersymbol interference is discussed, a necessary and sufficient condition for a given spectral mask to be compatible with Nyquist criterion. Finally, we conclude that the SFCG masks will permit the use of a root-raised-cosine Nyquist pulse shape.
