Abstract
An Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system has been installed in Huntington Beach, California, since 1977. This system is part of an integrated Computer Aided Dispatch/AVL system in use by the Huntington Beach Police Department. Since the initial installation, major changes and improvements have been made to the communications and location subsystems and the CAD/AVL computer interface as a result of operational evaluation over the past three years. These changes and improvements and a description of the capability of the AVL system operating in conjunction with the CAD system are described.
