Abstract
This paper studies the techno-economic aspects of future broadband access platform evolution. The results are based on three projects: AC038 Broadband-Loop, AC050 PLANET and AC028 TOBASCO that are part of the European Union ACTS programme. These projects have developed alternative broadband access solutions using VDSL, Super PON and WDM technologies. First, the technical essence of these network solutions is described project by project. The paper presents the central results of the techno-economic evaluation of these architectures. Finally conclusions are presented in the form of a guideline followed by an explanation
