Abstract
This paper proposes a new traffic handling scheme for enhancing the data services in the mixed media cellular system. It minimizes the blocking and forced termination of data traffic by using a buffer and the guard channel. An analytical model is derived based on Markov chain. Also an extended simulation analysis is carried out to study the impact of major parameters on the system performance. The proposed scheme is very effective when the mean service time is small
