Abstract
This paper seeks to explore the benefits that could be obtained from the application of Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 successors and packet based wireless technologies in two distinct areas of electricity utility operations: enhanced automatic meter reading (AMR) and cost effective monitoring of electrical supply continuity in low voltage electrical distribution networks.
