  • Abstract
    Under the influence of sustained flood scouring, buried pipelines are often exposed out of earth surface and this will result in vortex-induced vibration of suspended pipeline, which is one of the main reasons of fatigue failure of oil and gas pipelines. In order to realize the remote monitoring of pipelines in river valley regions threatened by floods, we have designed a set of monitoring device for vibration frequency of pipeline based on fiber Bragg grating sensing technology, which is capable of satisfying the requirements automatic and real-time monitoring of vortex-induced vibration of oil and gas pipelines subjected to flood impacting. The monitoring device has been put into the laboratory experiment, and the comparison of measurement results between the FBG vibration sensor and resistance strain gauge shows that the two results are generally in agreement with each other, which has verified the feasibility and effectiveness of this FBG vibration monitoring device.
