  • Abstract
    Power electronic equipment, by the very nature of its operation and geometry, generates a very complex electromagnetic environment. Secondary electronic systems, used for drives, control and monitoring, have successfully operated in this environment for many years. With the introduction of the European (EC) Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive, manufacturers now have to show that their products comply with the Directive. This means that not only must the equipment or system function in its self generated noise but it must also have an adequate level of electromagnetic immunity and allow unhindered use of other electrical apparatus. This paper outlines one approach to the design for electromagnetic compatibility of power electronic equipment and describes progress towards the production of an EMC design and analysis facility for complex environments
