  • Abstract
Finding good random number generators (RNGs) is a hard problem that is of crucial task in several fields, ranging from large-scale statistical physics simulations to hardware self-test. In this paper, we describe a single key cryptographic system based on two-dimensional non-uniform cellular automata (CA). Also we present the architecture design and the hardware implementation on a reconfigurable hardware platform (Xilinx VirtexII XC28000-5ff1517). Applying an extensive suite of randomness tests to the evolved CAs, we demonstrate the rapidly produce high-quality random-number sequences. In our scheme, we used the reconfigurable two dimensional von Neumann CA to generate high quality random sequence as key stream.
