Abstract
Studies the crosstalk due to the leakage of the added signal to the DROP port in passive WDM ring networks. This crosstalk was found to be strong enough to significantly degrade system performance. We have shown that the total bit-error rate in the system can be optimized, thus allowing lower launch power or longer spans. Active power management has been proposed as a way to improve the system performance
