This presentation reviews the status of the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet standards effort. It also explains why and where 10 Gigabit Ethernet will be used in local area, metropolitan area, and wide area networks over both dark fiber and in attachment to SONET/SDH infrastructure
