Abstract
This paper deals with the application of GMSK modulation as the chip modulation in a DS-SS system in the presence of nonlinear amplifiers. Coherent chip detection is used since the low SNR requirements of the system prevent the use of differential chip detection. The data modulation used is DBPSK to handle large frequency offsets due to the highly dynamic channel. The paper focuses on the PN acquisition behavior with GMSK chip modulation along with the detection performance of such a system. The PN acquisition process is analyzed theoretically and the performance results obtained through simulations are given. The demodulation performance is presented through BER measurement results
