Abstract
This paper compares the performance of soft handoff (SHO) between IS-95A and IS-95B/cdma2000 by using the following performance indicators : quality of traffic channel (Eb/No), outage probability, new call blocking probability (PB), handoff call blocking probability (PHO), expected number of base stations in active set (NOBS), expected number of changes in active set (NOupdate) and Trunking Resource Efficiency (TRE) with specific Poisson distributed call arrival and exponential distributed holding time process. By comparison of all parameters, IS-95B/cdma2000 SHOs tends to have a higher performance than IS-95A SHO. Moreover the SHO thresholds affect the triggering and the releasing of 2-way and 3-way SHOs with different distance of both algorithms
