Abstract
This paper describes briefly an elegant implementation of a microwave frequency synthesizer, which can deliver good phase noise and spurious performance along with an octave tuning range and fine tuning steps. The frequency synthesizer has 1 MHz loop bandwidth, which guarantees fast frequency setting, and a phase noise of -80 dBc at 10 kHz. More discussions focus on the performance analysis of this synthesizer, including phase noise and spurious signal analysis. Practical design considerations are emphasized
