Abstract
A new multistatic radar system is proposed, where the same frequency band and radar code are used by multiple radar stations, while allowing them to operate quasi-orthogonally by appending the radar code with a signature that is unique for every radar station. The timing of the mainlobe of the radar code matched filter and/or mismatched filter output provides target localization with sufficient precision, but it might be insufficient to identify the location of the signature following the radar code with adequate accuracy. This is achieved by micro-positioning, whereby weighted averaging of the short range autocorrelation of the chips of the received signature with the set of active signatures is performed, resulting in identifying the source of transmission. The proposed micro-positioning technique has a wide array of applications, both civilian and military, such as CDMA communications in high noise environment and multi-vehicular communications network.
