Abstract
This paper presents a portable system to assist visually impaired people in indoor and outdoor environments. It uses different sensors to detect obstacles and guide them in their movement with the aid of GPS and compass. The main part of the system consists of a multicore android smartphone. Other sensory modules detect obstacles and communicate relevant information to the main part. Optionally, the system can communicate remotely for distance monitoring.
