Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. According to the requirements of a driving flash-lamp, the design of a high pulsed power supply (HPPS) based on a capacitor as an energy storage modular is presented. Special consideration is given to the nonlinear characteristics of the flash-lamp and the necessity of pre-ionization. The faults of the HPPS were analyzed in detail. The fault current and voltage waveforms were given by circuit simulations. Based on the analysis and computation, a protection strategy was put forward. This is helpful for the design and safe operation of the HPPS. The primary experiments indicated that the design of the HPPS is successful.
