Abstract
The performance of homogeneous and heterogeneous fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) networks is investigated. The throughput and mean-message delay of synchronous and asynchronous traffic are presented. Access fairness for asynchronous data and the effect of synchronous data on asynchronous data are also investigated. The token-cycle time distribution illustrating the mechanics of the priority scheme is presented. The performance of FDDI under errors such as lost tokens and network severance on the network performance is examined. It is shown that the network recovers in a predictable and repeatable manner from these error conditions
