Abstract
Research work investigating the needs of control protocols supporting multimedia and multiparty services in a distributed control environment is described. It is assumed that control is distributed through the network so that each network node acts independently, and provides information transport, connection and bridging or other processing functions in order to optimize the use of network resources. To establish a connection, a node reserves use of local channels to an adjacent node, then transmits a request for connection to remote destination users, plus the specification for mapping information between channels and connections. An identical call control process takes place at each node in the call
