  • Abstract
Wireless sensor networks are vulnerable to different security attacks. This paper critically analyzes the performance of the physical layer of the WSNs which are subjected to jamming attacks. The communication in the WSNs is performed using chaotic spreading sequences. The mathematical expressions of probability of error for the system with jamming attack are derived assuming the presence of white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh fading in the channel. It has been observed that the presence of fading increases the probability of error. The performance of the system is further investigated by introducing interleavers and deinterleavers. It was observed that the inclusion of interleavers not only successfully compensates the effects of fading, but it can also compensate fast switching jamming attacks effects. A Matlab based simulation platform is developed and the results of simulation confirm the theoretical expressions. Further, our result shows that the fast switching jammer is more efficient than the slow jammers. In addition this paper suggests the minimum jamming power which is required for performing an effective jamming attack.
