  • Abstract
    This paper investigates the possibilities for the improvement in the operational performance of 29 state owned electric utilities in India on region wise, using Data Envelopment Analysis based (DEA). The productivity of any firm is measured by the quantity of output produced per unit of input. Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) for a two year period of 2003-04 and 2005-06. Two different models viz., the CCR DEA model and the BCC DEA model are applied to evaluate the performance. DEA based Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) is decomposed as technical efficiency change and technology change to witness the growth of the SEOU´s. The result of MPI identifies the potential of various parameters for the change with regard to technical efficiency and technology.
