Abstract
Vacuum electron devices are key devices for many applications due to their high frequency and high power characteristics. To exploit the frequency above 100GHz, a SWS band-edge oscillator (SWSBO) is proposed for a compact source of high-power radiation based on interaction in the region near band-edge of SWS. Because the impedance near band-edge becomes so great that strong interaction can occur. The concept of SWSBO has been successfully demonstrated experimentally using folded waveguide SWS. The experimental F-band prototype reaches maximum pulsed output power of 32W and the oscillator frequency of 124.44GHz with the voltage of 23.1kV and the current of 150mA, respectively.
